Random Acts of Kindness

on Monday, November 9, 2009

I've always had this desire to help people in need. That would make sense as to why I created a nonprofit that supports single moms. The meaning behind the story I am about to share is what one simple act can do to make someone's day. In September my daughter and I were in the drive through of McDonald's. I used to stop there every morning to grab of cup of Iced Caramel coffee..yum yum...I had to downsize from Starbuck's to a cheaper brand of coffee. Ha! Well, that morning I decided to pay for the persons order behind me. This urge comes over me once an awhile. It is some sort of natural instinct and feeling that I get and I act on it. The funny part is when I paid for my order I told the young lady that was the cashier that I wanted to pay for the person's order behind me. The cashier looked at as if to say "are you serious", but she went ahead and accepted my money and then I moved up to get my order.

I did not know what that person was going to order, but it was placed on my heart that morning. I looked in my rear view mirror and I noticed the man in his big pick up truck, as he was talking to the cashier. He looked quite surprise, but hey he went along with it. So as I drove off the feeling I had that morning made feel so good. I cannot explain exactly what it felt like. I can say that it made my day. So as I am driving down Roosevelt Blvd. I see this truck on the side of my PT Cruiser and he rolls his window down and so I told my daughter to roll our window down and he said as we are both driving 40 miles per hour "Thank You" with a big smile on his face. I know for a fact that I made his morning and I'm sure he went on to have a great day too. If we all took time out once in awhile just to make people smile and let them know they matter too can you imagine how contagious that would be? It would be such a beautiful world.
